A little history

The iconic legendary 660 and 670 compressor–limiter, is being cloned by various manufacturers. These clones actually include the original design circuitry. Various factors have given this unit it's iconic place in the pro audio industry. Even though it has been around for decades, it maintains its place and popularity amongst producers and mixers of all types of genres in many recording studios worldwide.

It’s sound is imprinted in many famous commercial productions. And even though it requires heavy maintenance, it has become a collector's piece selling as high as $50,000.

“Fairchild offered both a mono version, the 660 (shown here), and the dual-         channel 670.”

“The Fairchild 670 and 660 are the most coveted vintage compressor/limiters in the world, with good reason. These 20-  tube tone titans — which now fetch upwards of $50,000 — impart an unmistakable silky warmth heard on hundreds of hit records from the Beatles and Pink Floyd to countless Motown classics.”

Universal Audio does it again

Again, they have taken me again, they have taken an iconic piece, and re-created an amazingly similar sounding plug-ing! Is black and has character, great Silky distortion, and amazingly easy to use face. Used on drums, it can bring out the kick and snare and have them groove in harmony, and control both their levels, keeping them together. On a base guitar, it can give the   sound an incredible distortion characteristic, pulling the bass track on top of the mix and gluing it to the drums. It is also used on the mix buss as a mix compressor applying soft subtle compression to the master mix.

And if this blog is posted on time, the plug-in is on sale at 50% off regular price.

I am super excited to go into the studio and try this plug-in! According to all the reviews and videos I looked at in writing this blog, this iconic piece adds incredible subtleties to any audio you throw it on. And the fact that it is so easy to dial-in that perfect level of distortion and compression, makes it a winner in my book. And as always do not forget to try the demo to see if it fits in your plug-in rack.

Thanks once again for checking out our blog, and please keep checking in for new reviews.
